BPC-157 Peptide: A Complete Research Overview

Abstract gold peptide molecule on black — BPC-157 research overview

BPC-157 is a synthetic pentadecapeptide — a chain of 15 amino acids studied as a research compound in laboratory and animal models.

What Is BPC-157?

BPC-157 ("Body Protection Compound") corresponds to a partial fragment of a protein originally identified in gastric juice. In the lab it is typically supplied as a lyophilized (freeze-dried) powder. The overwhelming majority of available data comes from in vitro and animal research — predominantly rodents. It has not completed human clinical trials.

What the Research Describes

Mechanistic studies — in cells and animals — have investigated several overlapping pathways:

  • VEGFR2 and angiogenesis (new blood-vessel formation) in tissue-healing models.
  • The nitric oxide system, including the Akt–eNOS axis, in animal models.
  • Fibroblast activity and the FAK–paxillin pathway in cell-based studies.
  • Granulation tissue and new-vessel formation in wound-healing models.

These describe mechanisms observed in laboratory and animal research — not demonstrated effects in humans.

A Note on the Current Evidence

  • A large majority of the BPC-157 record comes from a single research group, which limits independent replication.
  • There are no completed Phase 2 or Phase 3 human clinical trials.
  • Reported pharmacokinetics indicate a short plasma half-life and limited bioavailability by some routes.

Forms and Handling in Research

In a research setting BPC-157 is handled as a lyophilized peptide powder, commonly reconstituted with bacteriostatic water for laboratory use, stored cold and protected from light, and supplied with purity testing (e.g., HPLC) and lot documentation.

Research-Use and Legal Status

BPC-157 is sold and used as a research compound only. It is not an FDA-approved drug, not a dietary supplement, and not intended for human or animal consumption.
